Why see a Psychologist or Counsellor?
There are many reasons why you might see a psychologist or counsellor. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stressful life events, or having difficulties with life transitions at home, work or school. You may also be wanting to improve your coping skills and/or you may seek professional guidance to excel in your personal and work life.
All psychologists are regulated by AHPRA; however, counsellors are not regulated through AHPRA.
Counsellors at Ascot Psychology & Allied Health are registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or PACFA. They apply evidence to ensure that treatment approaches are valid and safe. Psychologists and counsellors are required to participate in ongoing supervision of practice and professional development to ensure their knowledge and skills are up-to-date. Issues you may choose to consult a Counsellor about:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Communication
- Domestic Violence
- Gender or sexuality issues
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions such as birth, separation or divorce
- Substance use
- Parenting
- Relationship issues
- Self-esteem
- Stress
- Trauma
Psychologists can also provide treatment and support for those areas identified above. In addition, psychologists can provide psychological and cognitive assessments and can work with a range of mental health issues across the lifespan. Clinical Psychologists at Ascot Psychology & Allied Health also work with more complex presentations including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia Spectrum and other Psychotic disorders.
Psychologists and counsellors at Ascot Psychology & Allied Health work from a Trauma Informed Framework. They encourage interdisciplinary collaboration with others who provide health care to clients, with their permission.

Psychological Assessments
An assessment usually involves an initial clinical interview, proceeded by a follow up appointment. These assessments are completed by your psychologist in person, and sometimes with a family member, teacher or support worker if requested.
Assessments will help your psychologist create the most appropriate treatment plans for therapy.
After your assessment is completed, your psychologist will interpret the results and provide an overview of their recommendations for you.
The cost of an assessment can vary depending on your requirements and length of time. Each assessment is tailored to your unique needs, and therefore your costs will reflect this.
Your psychologist will work with you to find the most suitable avenue for your needs. For more information about psychology related fees, click here.
